We always try to have as smaller environmental footprint as possible. Today’s farmers produce fewer emissions than they did 20 years ago.

But with the growth of the population, we must enhance food production in various ways, but we try to do it as efficiently as possible. Today’s carbon footprint of a glass of milk is about two-thirds less than a glass of milk 50 years ago.

Island Dairies aim to leave no environmental footprint at all in the future. But it is a hard goal to achieve. But we have already started the basic steps for that by making our milking and production as environmentally friendly as possible and using the latest technology.

Currently, national daily milk production is more than 1.4 million litres per day. And Island Dairies also provide a considerable contribution to that. We are collecting fresh milk daily from local milk farmers around the factory. We have had a great bond with the rural milk farmers for a long time. Currently, there are a lot of farmers that have a better financial state because of their relationship with our factory. Also, we provide animal feed and medicines for affordable prices to our farmers. And we also conduct counselling seminars to give them practical knowledge about dairy farming, loans, and so on.

Improvements of sustainability

Cows naturally release methane during rumination and digestion. Therefore, we do not increase the number of cows in larger numbers just because we need to produce more fresh milk for our products. Normally, a dairy cow eats up to 40kg of feed and around 180 liters of water per day. And we have experimented with various nutritious feed mixes for cows, and they are highly beneficial for cows to gain high nutrition as well as reduce feed wastage. And it also reduces methane emissions.

Also, Island Dairies uses as latest and high-tech machines as possible for all our productions. And we only use fresh milk that is taken daily for all our products. We do our production according to ISO 22000:2018, FSMS, HACCP, and GMP quality standards. Island Dairies products do not have any chemical or biological waste. Our products always have good nutrition values and a lot of health benefits for consumers.

As per industrial waste management, we use fewer chemicals as possible, reuse possible products as possible, and use as many automated processes as possible in our production to reduce the wastages. And we always inspect and service our automated machinery to avoid leaks, spills, overflows, and production malfunctions. Also, we produce biogas for energy generation by collecting our factory’s waste through a by special drainage process.
